Russna Kaur was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1991. She grew up and lived in Brampton for many years before her family moved to the rural town of Caledon East, Ontario. Kaur attended The University of Waterloo where she studied Biology for two years before switching programs and completing a BA with a major in Fine Arts: Honours Studio Practice in June 2013. Kaur works in a variety of mediums including photography (both analogue and digital), painting, and drawing. She has exhibited works throughout Ontario in cities such as Toronto, Waterloo, Chatham-Kent, Stratford and Brampton. Kaur has shown at internationally recognized juried exhibitions such as Toronto Art Expo, Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition and CONTACT Photography Festival. She also exhibited in Vancouver, BC while on an internship at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. During her time at the University of Waterloo, Kaur was the curator of the on-campus student gallery, The Artery.
