As a reluctant city dweller who loves to escape to the country on weekends and holidays, I have always had a passionate affection for the rural Ontario landscape. The chirping of crickets in hot, dry fields of hay, the sunlight streaming on farmhouse walls give me a great sense of peace and increased clarity of vision. As a painter, I am always looking for the abstract in nature, the interesting shadow shapes and dramatic chiaroscuro created by trees, old barns and wide open spaces.

Perhaps inspired by medieval alter pieces I enjoy using the triptych format which creates a rhythm quite pleasing to the eye. These small-scale works serve as intimate windows on the countryside as well as studies for larger works in oils.

Deborah Percy is a native of Toronto, Ontario and developed an interest in painting when experimenting with watercolours with her young son. After attending many painting workshops and evening courses over the years she entered the Ontario College of Art and Design and in 2008 graduated with distinction with a BFA.

Since then she has continued her studies at the Toronto School of Art, University of Toronto and the Printmaking studio at 401 Richmond, Toronto. She has given private classes in art history and painting to young students. Over the years Deborah has participated in juried art shows at the Etobicoke Arts Centre, Edwards Gardens,Toronto, The Lonsdale Gallery, and the Ontario College of Art and Design' "Whodunit?" shows. In 2010 and 2011 her work was included in the Annual Drawing Exhibition at the John Aird Gallery, Toronto, the 2011 Don Valley Art Club Sunnybrook Hospital Exhibition and in 2010 the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition in London.
