2010 Judges

Sonya Blazek:
As Assistant Administrator of ARTspace Gallery in Chatham-Kent since 2008, Sonya Blazek has worked closely with local talented artists. She is responsible for the Gallery’s marketing, art workshops, exhibition development, and community initiatives, as well as performing similar functions for the Thames Art Gallery. She graduated from Queen’s University with an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Art History. During her studies at Queen’s, she volunteered time to several galleries in the Kingston area, and has volunteered her weekends for the past four years as an art therapist for the disabled. She is a practicing visual artist and most recently was awarded the “People’s Choice Award” at the Thames Art Gallery community initiative Beauty Interpreted, 2009.


Martin Pearce:
Educated at the Royal College of Art in London, Martin Pearce is an Assistant Professor at the University of Guelph, teaching painting and drawing. He has exhibited his work in Canada for over 20 years, most recently, this spring, at transit in Hamilton. Next year he will be part of the show, "The Point Is" at the Kelowna Art Gallery, Kelowna, BC. Martin Pearce is associated with the centre for Recent Drawing, (C4RD), in London, England. His work is in public and private collections in Canada, USA and the UK.


Dr. Donald Desmond:
Dr. Desmond is a graduate of Lakehead University and the University of Western Ontario. He is a 40 year student of Canadian art and, more importantly, a serious and committed buyer and collector of Canadian art.
