SPRINKLES
Mark Reinhart (Chatham)
Thirty-five pounds of Sprinkles
Performance piece to be altered in shape throughout the exhibition

Sprinkles seeks to explore what it means to be queer in a rural community; how the formation of queer identities is normally silenced by the boom of heteronormative culture, a culture that seems to dominate Canadian rural living. The intention of Sprinkles is to be loud about the colours of our identity, regardless of whether or not we fit in with contemporary culture. To celebrate the opportunity to identify as a queer subject in a Canadian rural community, and in doing so, celebrate the idea of a subject in process – its movement through systems of identification not restricted by the unreal expectations of an oppressive heteronorvative culture.
